Software Engineer (PL/SQL, Java)

The role
We are looking for an experienced PL/SQL Engineer to join our long-term partnership with ICA, one of Scandinavia's largest retail companies.
This is a full-time, ongoing & on-site position in Sarajevo.
You will join a cross-functional development team working on business-critical systems with complex data processing and business logic. The role is primarily focused on Oracle PL/SQL and database development, with Java used for integrations and RESTful APIs.
We are looking for someone with strong database development experience who is comfortable taking business requirements and translating them into efficient, maintainable database solutions.
Project
You will join one of several business-critical development teams responsible for applications that support ICA's core retail operations, including pricing, supply chain, assortment management, and product information.
The systems rely heavily on Oracle PL/SQL for processing business logic and large volumes of data, while Java is used for backend services and integrations.

Project

Depending on the team, you may work on applications such as:
- CPC (Cost Price Calculation) - calculates wholesale prices for products sold in ICA stores.
- ICASOI - generates Store Orderable Item data supporting ICA's supply chain.
- AssortmentStage - manages and publishes business-critical information related to articles, agreements, and consumer products.
The work includes:
- Developing and maintaining Oracle PL/SQL solutions
- Translating business requirements into appropriate database objects and data models
- Developing and maintaining Packages, Functions, Views, and Stored Procedures
- Performing SQL performance tuning and query optimization
- Processing and working with large volumes of data
- Maintaining and improving existing business-critical solutions
- Supporting integrations and RESTful APIs using Java
- Working with Swedish colleagues in a collaborative development environment
- Participating in development, testing, deployment, and production support
Requirements:
- 4+ years of professional software development experience
- Strong hands-on experience with Oracle PL/SQL
- Strong understanding of data modeling and translating business requirements into database objects
- Strong experience with:
- Packages
- Functions
- Views
- Stored Procedures
- Experience with SQL performance tuning and query optimization
- Experience handling and processing large volumes of data
- Good understanding of Oracle Database concepts and best practices
- Experience with Git/GitHub for source code management
- Working knowledge of Java
- Ability to develop and work with RESTful APIs
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good English communication skills

Additional notes:
- This position is primarily focused on Oracle PL/SQL and database development.
- Strong PL/SQL experience is the key requirement for the role.
- Java is part of the technology stack, but candidates are not expected to be primarily Java developers.
- Experience working with complex business logic, large datasets, and performance-critical database solutions is highly relevant.
- Candidates should be comfortable working with and improving existing business-critical systems.
